NCAL's Quality Director to Lead New York Center for Assisted Living

The National Center for Assisted Living’s (NCAL) Director of Workforce and Quality Improvement, Shelley Wagar Sabo, will become the executive director of the New York State Center for Assisted Living, an affiliate of the New York State Health Facilities Association. She arrived at NCAL 12 years ago shortly after NCAL was established and helped build NCAL into what it is today - an organization dedicated to quality and advocacy. Her most notable achievement at NCAL is implementing the only quality improvement program that exists for the assisted living profession.

During her tenure with NCAL, she led numerous quality initiatives, including the association’s “Advocating Care Excellence” and the series of Guiding Principles for Quality, Leadership and Dementia Care. Shelley helped launch the “Caring for our Caregivers” program, “NCAL Day” at AHCA/NCAL’s annual convention and led program partnerships with national organizations including the American Assisted Living Nurses Association, Alzheimer’s Association, and My InnerView.  Prior to joining NCAL Shelley was an active member of VCAL and served as administrator at a VCAL facility in Manassas, as well as on Virginia’s State Board of Social Services. She additionally was honored by VHCA/VCAL as an Assisted Living Administrator of the Year.
