VHCA Committees to Review Proposed Rule on Medicare Requirements of Participation

The Virginia Health Care Association’s (VHCA) Regulatory and Quality of Care Committees are holding a joint meeting on August 20 to review the proposed changes to the Medicare and Medicaid participation requirements for nursing facilities.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published its notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on July 16 for the requirements of participation. The proposed rules are the first comprehensive revisions to skilled nursing and long term care regulations since 1991.  The NPRM includes substantial changes and reorganization. CMS is accepting comments on the NPRM through September 14.

During the joint committee meeting, VHCA will be soliciting member feedback on the proposed regulatory changes to assist in the development of written comments to CMS.  VHCA will submit comments to CMS and encourages all members to submit individual comments as well.  Talking points and related information will be provided to the membership following the August 20 meeting.
