Is Your Facility Prepared For a Disaster? Find out August 4

Hurricanes, tornadoes, derechos, wildfires, and blizzards—any one of these natural disasters could have a devastating effect on a long term care facility.   Did you know that during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, more than 62 long term care facilities and 11 hospitals were evacuated?   Are you ready if your facility is subject to one of these destructive events?

The Virginia Health Care Association wants to help you with your disaster planning.  Join us on August 4 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Williamsburg for a 5-hour program, All Hazards Emergency Management for Long Term Care.  We recommend this course for administrators, owners, regional vice presidents, directors of nursing, maintenance directors, emergency managers, and others involved in disaster planning.

Scheduled presenters include:

  • Scott Aronson, Russell Phillips & Associates, who will advise you on the key elements to include in your emergency plan, how to track residents during an evacuation, how to receive residents into open beds, and how to develop an active shooter procedure specific to an individual facility.
  • Margaret Leoni, a contractor for the Nursing Home Survey & Certification Group at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will help you better understand CMS’s survey checklist and the most up-to-date standards for licensed facilities.
