NCAL Releases Refreshed Guiding Principles for Leadership

Recently, the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) revealed an updated version of its Guiding Principles for Leadership.  Approved by the NCAL Board of Directors earlier this summer, the document is intended to identify the core traits an individual should possess to be successful as a leader within their specific assisted living community.  NCAL believes strong leadership is needed to successfully achieve the mission and vision of the organization.

The new Guiding Principles for Leadership offers additional language on mistakes and encourages leaders to see them as opportunities. NCAL also stipulates that strong leaders comfort those that make mistakes and admit when they make their own.

As the assisted living profession continues to grow and change, NCAL developed guiding principles as an informational resource to generally describe what assisted living is and some of the ways that the assisted living profession is striving to continue developing and improving services.

The contents of NCAL’s Guiding Principles for Leadership may represent some preferred practices, but do not represent minimum standards, “standards of care,” or industry-wide norms for assisted living communities.
