Dementia Care Best Practices Study

In response to a request in January by Delegate Orrock, Chair, House Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions, a study has been conducted and reviewed of dementia care best practices in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In preparing for the report and its findings, staff at the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) called upon several stakeholders representing provider associations, including the Virginia Health Care Association and the Virginia Center for Assisted Living, experts and advocates, and state agencies. As a result, many guiding principles for quality practices and 13 recommendations for encouraging and expanding best practice programs and services were developed.
