Award Winners Announced at the Annual Awards Banquet in Richmond

Every year we recognize the shining stars within our membership at the VHCA Annual Awards Banquet held during the VHCA/VCAL Convention.  We celebrate the outstanding achievements of administrators, nurses, volunteers and others who help make Virginia long term care facilities places of quality care for the frail and elderly.   

Congratulations to the following award winners for their outstanding service in the profession:

James G. Dunton Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement
Patsy Hobson, Medical Facilities of America - Roanoke.  Ms. Hobson has always been an active participant in the Association and has served on various committees including Education, Regulatory and Political Action as well as being a Roanoke district officer.  She is highly regarded as an advocate for the residents and staff.  Ms. Hobson began her career as a CNA and ultimately became a Nursing Home Administrator.  With over 40 years in the long term care profession, she has dedicated her life to improving the quality of the lives of her residents.  

VHCA Nursing Facility Administrator of the Year Award
Bill Belmonte, Autumn Care of Suffolk.  Mr. Belmonte is an empathetic and caring person, and it shows in the daily interactions he has with the residents and their families.  He is highly skilled, compassionate, a critical thinker and displays the highest ethical standards.  Mr. Belmonte is active in the Association and has served on various committees.  He has been a nursing facility administrator for 25 years and Administrator of his current facility for seven years.

VCAL Assisted Living Administrator of the Year Award
Liz Dammeyer, Harbourway Assisted Living at Atlantic Shores in Virginia Beach.  Ms. Dammeyer is an outstanding Administrator and passionate about her residents and the assisted living profession.  She cares deeply about how assisted living is regulated and the long term effects of today’s legislative issues.  As such, she is very active in the VCAL and has served on the VCAL Committee for several years.  Ms. Dammeyer is a true leader – direct, truthful and honest and has been at her current facility for 14 years.

VHCA/VCAL Director of Nursing of the Year Award
Ann Jenkins, Lynn Care Center – Front Royal.  Ms. Jenkins is an exceptional Director of Nursing and her clinical and leadership skills have earned her respect from her peers.  She has a gift of promoting communication by example, no job is “beneath” her.  She is always available for her staff, residents and families.   Ms. Jenkins began her career over 20 years ago as a CNA and has been at Lynn Care Center for 13 years.    

VHCA/VCAL Certified Nursing Assistant of the Year Award
Nancy Crickenberger, Dogwood Village of Orange County.  Ms. Crickenberger is an outstanding certified nursing assistant and an asset to her community.  She takes great pride in caring for her residents and treats each one as if they are family.  Ms. Crickenberger has a very calming and reassuring demeanor which gains her respect with the residents, staff and their families.  Ms. Crickenberger began working at Dogwood Village of Orange County 24 years ago.
