2014 ASSISTED LIVING SYMPOSIUM – Scheduled for July 31st

The 2014 Assisted Living Symposium – Insights into a Changing Environment, scheduled for July 31st at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Richmond – Midlothian, is specifically designed for assisted living providers to focus on critical issues and best practices.  Attendees will learn more about the Virginia regulatory scene and emerging national assisted living issues.  Also, practical approaches for reducing antipsychotic drugs in assisted living facilities will be explored that will include strategies for implementing non-pharmacy approaches to personalized care.

Dave Kyllo, Executive Director of the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL), will present an update on assisted living activities across the country as well as NCAL activities that are engaging members in the many quality improvement initiatives sponsored by NCAL.  

The mid-morning session will be presented by a panel featuring Lynne Williams, Department of Social Services, Brenda Krohn, Virginia Board of Nursing and Missy Currier, Board of Long Term Care Administrators.  These presenters will address their respective agencies’ requirements for assisted living to include AL administrator/AIT requirements, current regulatory issues facing providers, and an update from the Board of Nursing regarding medication aides and the important role they provide to assisted living providers.  

The afternoon sessions will focus on the reduction of antipsychotic drugs and alternative therapies for enhancing the lives of residents with dementia.
