New MDS Training Videos Available

Cil Bullard RN,CPC, Virginia RAI/OASIS Coordinator in the Office of Licensure and Certification has notified VHCA that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed training videos available on “MDS fundamentals”.  The videos are now been posted on the MDS training page and include the following:

  1. Section O, Special Treatments - Description: This training speaks to specific items in Section O, Special Treatments Procedures and Programs. The focus is on difficult to understand items, such as Item O0100F, Ventilator or Respirator, coding of respiratory therapy services, and coding of item O0500, Restorative Nursing Programs. 
  2. Section G, Functional status - Description: Section G focuses on coding clarifications and new scenarios to help bring key points to life.  Please note that recent manual revisions DO NOT change how items are coded in Section G; however, they do provide additional clarification and guidance as to how assessors are to code Item G0110 and how to apply the ADL Self-Performance coding level definitions and the Rule of 3.
  3. MDS 3.0 Provider Updates: Section M - Description: CMS Post-Acute Care Provider Training Series, Section M of the MDS 3.0: Skin Conditions. This video covers MDS 3.0 coding instructions and frequently asked questions for Section M of the MDS 3.0. 
  4. MDS 3.0 Provider Updates: Section I - Description: CMS Post-Acute Care Provider Training Series, Section I of the MDS 3.0: Active diagnoses. This video covers MDS 3.0 coding instructions and frequently asked questions for Section I of the MDS 3.0.
