REMINDER TO REGISTER: LTC Survey Program Scheduled January 10, 2013

Start 2013 off on the right foot with this informative one-day program designed to highlight key clinical and operational changes and revisions with implications for the long term care survey.  Our presenters will offer an in-depth look at recent survey and certification memos to state survey agencies from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) covering revisions to the survey protocol of the State Operations Manual and F tags for feeding tubes, advance directives and quality of care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze CMS memos to state agencies updating the survey protocols and guidance on F tags for feeding tubes, advance directives and quality of care
  • Review CMS guidance related to medication errors and pharmacy services with an emphasis on medication error problem areas, the “borrowing” of medications from other residents and guidance on disposal of used fentanyl patches
  • Review expanded guidance on advance care planning and end-of-life care and the importance of facility policies and staff training
  • Examine the importance of the Interdisciplinary Team and coordination with hospice providers
  • Explore trends and patterns from 2012 long term care surveys conducted in Virginia and discuss specific details of the most frequently cited deficiencies
  • Understand how SMART has been updated to capture results of changes in Interpretive Guidelines and CMS initiatives

The LTC Survey in Virginia - revisions, clarifications and trends is scheduled for January 10, 2013 at the Holiday Inn Koger Conference Center in Richmond.
