National Health Care Decisions Day – April 16, 2013

The Virginia Health Care Association (VHCA) wants to remind members about an opportunity to promote advance care planning with residents, families, and staff.  April 16, 2013 has been designated National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD).  The NHDD Initiative, now in its sixth year, is a collaborative effort of national, state, and community organizations committed to ensuring that all adults with decision-making capacity in the United States have the information and opportunity to communicate and document their health care decisions.  For more information, click here.

VHCA is once again urging members to participate in this event along with a broad array of other organizations.  If you have not already done so, please sign up your organization by clicking here.  In its first five years, NHDD enjoyed participation by hundreds of national, state, and local organizations, and millions of people learned more about and took action-on advance care planning.

You need not change what you are already doing to educate your community about advance health care decision-making and advance directives--instead, you are simply encouraged to make a "bigger splash" in your community regarding the topic on April 16, 2013.  To assist in this effort, a host of outreach materials and suggestions are available on the NHDD website.
