William A. Hazel, Jr., M.D. Reappointed as Virginia’s Secretary of Health and Human Resources

Secretary William A. Hazel, Jr., M.D. was reappointed on Wednesday by Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe to continue his service as Virginia’s Secretary of Health and Human Resources.   Secretary Hazel was appointed in 2010 by Governor Robert F. McDonnell and has served in this role during his entire term.  Secretary Hazel is a retired orthopedic surgeon from Northern Virginia.  He has spearheaded many important projects during his time as Secretary, with his primary focus on Medicaid reforms and an overhaul of the Commonwealth’s eligibility system for the Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs.  In addition, Secretary Hazel has played a major role in working to increase foster care adoption and reducing homelessness.  The Virginia Health Care Association has had a good relationship with Secretary Hazel.  We congratulate him on his reappointment and look forward to working with him over the next four years.
