2012 National Health Care Decisions Day Scheduled

April 16, 2012 has been designated Health Care Decisions Day. The National Health Care Decisions Day Initiative, now in its fifth year, is a collaborative effort of national, state and community organizations committed to ensuring that all adults with decision-making capacity in the United States have the information and opportunity to communicate and document their health care decisions.  For more information, click here.

This initiative started in Virginia and has been held every year on April 16th, the day after income tax deadline day.  April 16th was chosen because of the saying, “Nothing is certain in life but death and taxation.”  Many VHCA members have participated in Health Care Decisions Day since it started in Virginia several years ago.  Please participate again this year to raise awareness in your community about the need for everyone to have an advanced directive to ensure that one’s wishes are known and followed concerning end of life care if the person lacks capacity to direct the care.

If you have not already done so, please sign up your facility.
