CMS Issues Memo on F-Tag Changes & Advance SOM Guidance

On August 2, 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published a memorandum to State Survey Agency Directors (S&C:  13-50 –NH) defining Administrator requirements to provide written notification of an impending facility closure, including the plan for relocation of residents at least 60 days in advance of the closure.  The guidelines provide specific instructions related to administrator responsibilities and requirements for what must be contained in the notification and who must be notified in writing prior to the impending facility closure.

Included in the Memo is an advanced copy of revisions to guidance for F203 and F204 and new F-Tags at 523 and 524.  CMS also provides advanced guidance to the State Operations Manual (SOM) Appendix PP regarding the federal requirements for notification of facility closure.  The advance guidance for F284 for the post-discharge plan of care for an anticipated discharge is also included in the Memo.
