2014 Legislative Conference: Standing Together to Face New Challenges

Register today to reserve your seat!  The 2014 Legislative Conference is just under two weeks away!

Representing a sea change for Virginia’s nursing facilities, 2014 ushers in a transition to managed care for the majority of our members. Along with other topics impacting long term care, the 2014 Legislative Conference will focus on how the launch of the Commonwealth Coordinated Care program will impact the long term care provider community.

Making our voices heard within the political and policy arena is vitally important. Time has been set aside on Tuesday morning to visit legislators.  VHCA members are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with their legislators during a visit to the General Assembly and at the evening legislative reception. We urge members to make appointments now to meet with their Delegate and Senator – face-to-face meetings are one of the most effective options for delivering our message about the critical need for adequate funding for long term care.

Conference participants will:

  • Prepare for implementation of Commonwealth Coordinated Care, Virginia’s Dual Demonstration initiative, with presentations from the three participating MCOs about their perspectives and goals for care coordination among dual eligible beneficiaries.
  • Receive a briefing on legislative actions in the 2014 General Assembly and understand the consequences of budget decisions on Virginia’s Medicaid funding.
  • Discover the importance of grass roots lobbying.
  • Hear about what is happening in Congress and AHCA’s efforts to influence Congressional decisions.
  • Learn about the Arizona Model of Managed Care and lessons learned from that state’s experience.
  • Receive an update on Medicaid Reform from Virginia’s Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Secretary William A. Hazel, Jr., MD.

Registration and brochure information is available online.
